Maths Mastery is now up and running in Reception, Year 1, Year 2, Year 3 and Year 4.
Our school has been lucky enough to gain a place on the Maths Mastery programme for 2016/2017. As we are the only school to be involved in the project in the North East, we feel this is an exciting opportunity for our children. This programme is proven to help raise attainment in maths and will have a positive impact on our school.
Many of our teachers involved in the programme have been on some fantastic training courses in London to ensure that they have all the knowledge they need to make this a success.
Even though Maths Mastery is only being taught, as a whole project, in Reception, Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3, all classes across school are adopting elements of the programme.
Maths Meetings are one of the elements that will be rolled out across school. These are 10-15 minutes basic maths sessions that aim to encourage children to love maths. Using songs, chants and many other strategies these are sure to be lots of fun!
Please keep in touch with the website for more updates on our exciting project.
In each maths mastery session, the children are set a ‘talk task’ to develop their language and understanding of the session. The ‘talk task’ gives the children the opportunity to support one another in a similar task to the one they will be completing independently later in the session. Take a look at the photographs below of different ‘talk tasks’ in action.
