In order to commemorate the centenary of the end of the First World War we are having a World War 1 week across school from Monday Nov 5th until Friday 9th Nov. During this week the children will learn about the life of soldiers and civilians at that time. This will include looking at artefacts and some groups of children will visit the Heugh Gun Battery in Hartlepool. Please encourage them to research and watch anything related to this (appropriate for their age) in order to support their understanding. On Thursday 8th Nov our cook will be providing a traditional roast beef dinner (quorn for vegetarians) as the only option at lunchtime in order to immerse children in this time in history. We would very much like all children who have school lunches to take part in this. However if this will cause your child a great deal of distress please advise their class teacher and provide them with a packed lunch on that day. On Friday 9th Nov we will be holding Open Afternoon from 2.15pm where you are welcome to come and work with your child in school. Work from the week will be on display. The choir will sing wartime songs in the hall from 3pm. We look forward to welcoming you in school for this event. Poppies will be on sale during the week for a minimum donation of 20p.
